Case Study #2 Single Family Home
Clean and Clear: Remove everything from countertop, stovetop and refrigerator. Thoroughly clean every surface, all appliances and sink. Add a splash of color with kitchen appropriate accessories.

Define a separate space while keeping open, spacious feeling. Remove extraneous furniture. Keep in mind a balance when placing furniture, with no wall feeling too heavy or light. In this case, we wanted to draw attention to the large bay window, accommodate the tree, and differentiate the living room from the foyer. The couch facing away from the window, actually draws ones eye to the window. The smaller couch serves as a half-wall to mark off the room. We took away part of the heavy entertainment hutch to maintain space and balance.

Spare rooms: In these rooms we rectified a mismatch of use and furniture by showing one as a bedroom and one an office. It was a simple move of the bed from one room to another to better show potential use of both rooms.
(3rd bedroom before, 2nd bedroom before................................................3rd bedroom after, 2nd bedroom after)

Closets and Storage Areas: Pack away as much as you can. Clear floors and neatly arrange shelves to create roomy and ample looking storage.

In this dining area, we took a smaller dining table from the center of the room, and pushed it against the wall. This opened up traffic flow from the front door out through the sliding door to the deck. In addition, the smaller table is no longer lost in its former space, instead it creates a little bistro “scene” that is in scale with its location.
